Job Description: IT Project Manager / Scrum Master

Role Summary

The IT Project Manager / Scrum Master is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering IT initiatives while serving as a Scrum Master for Agile teams. This role blends traditional project management with Agile execution, ensuring alignment with business objectives, System Life Cycle (SLC) governance, and enterprise delivery standards. The position requires strong leadership, cross-functional coordination, and the ability to drive predictable, high-quality outcomes across multiple teams.

Key Outcomes / Success Measures

  • IT projects delivered on time, within scope and budget, and meeting defined business objectives.

  • Agile teams operate with clear cadence, well-run ceremonies, and continuous improvement.

  • Proactive and transparent management of risks, dependencies, and impediments.

  • Full compliance with SLC/SDLC stage gates, governance, and audit requirements.

  • Stakeholders receive accurate and timely visibility into plans, progress, risks, and delivery outcomes.


Main Responsibilities

1. Project Management & Delivery Ownership

  • Manage IT projects end-to-end from initiation through delivery and closure.

  • Create and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, milestones, and dependencies using PM tools (e.g., MS Project, Planner).

  • Track progress, manage budgets (where required), and oversee risks, issues, and dependencies.

  • Coordinate delivery across cross-functional teams, vendors, and partner groups.

  • Ensure delivery aligns with approved business goals and priorities.

2. Scrum Master Responsibilities (Agile Execution)

  • Serve as Scrum Master for one or more Agile teams, driving Agile mindset and practices.

  • Facilitate key Agile ceremonies: Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Reviews, and Retrospectives.

  • Support team predictability through coaching, metrics, and continuous improvement.

  • Identify and drive resolution of delivery impediments.

  • Foster transparency, collaboration, and shared accountability.

3. Planning, Reporting & Governance

  • Maintain integrated delivery plans across Agile and non-Agile workstreams.

  • Provide routine status updates on progress, risks, issues, and forecasts.

  • Use project and delivery metrics to support decision-making.

  • Support release, PI, and roadmap planning, including capacity and dependency management.

4. System Life Cycle (SLC) Support & Compliance

  • Ensure all project activities meet SLC/SDLC governance and stage-gate requirements.

  • Coordinate required SLC deliverables, approvals, and release readiness tasks.

  • Maintain proper documentation and evidence for audits and governance reviews.

5. Stakeholder & Change Management

  • Act as the primary delivery contact for technical and business stakeholders.

  • Communicate clearly to manage expectations and ensure transparency.

  • Support change management processes and escalate issues/decisions when needed.

6. Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve delivery effectiveness, planning accuracy, and collaboration.

  • Promote consistent use of project management and Agile best practices.

  • Contribute to enterprise standards, templates, and ways of working.


Qualifications

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Preferred: PMP/PRINCE2, CSM/PSM, SAFe, ITIL Foundation.


Experience

  • 5–10+ years of experience in IT project delivery within enterprise environments.

  • Strong experience with project management tools (MS Project, Planner, etc.).

  • Proven experience as a Scrum Master in Agile or hybrid environments.

  • Experience delivering across multiple teams and stakeholder groups.


Skills

  • Excellent project planning, scheduling, and execution capabilities.

  • Strong understanding of Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban; SAFe a plus).

  • Exceptional facilitation, communication, and stakeholder management.

  • Ability to balance Agile delivery with enterprise governance and controls.


Tools & Platforms

  • Project Management: MS Project, Planner, or equivalent enterprise tools.

  • Agile Delivery: Jira (Software), Confluence.

  • Nice to have: ServiceNow or other ITSM/ALM/portfolio tools.


Working Model

  • Participates fully in Agile ceremonies, planning events, and cross-team coordination.

  • Supports PI or release planning where needed.

  • Hybrid working model with collaboration across teams and time zones.
