Data Architect – Commerce + ESL (Adobe Commerce / Magento)

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Data Architect – Commerce + ESL (Adobe Commerce / Magento) to lead the architecture, design, and governance of enterprise commerce data platforms and integration ecosystems. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in Adobe Commerce (Magento), Enterprise Service Layer (ESL) architecture, APIs, microservices, and enterprise data integration. This role will be responsible for defining scalable, secure, and high-performance commerce architecture while ensuring seamless integration across business-critical enterprise systems.

The successful candidate will work closely with business, product, engineering, security, infrastructure, and enterprise architecture teams to deliver robust digital commerce solutions that support business growth, operational excellence, and customer experience objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Define end-to-end architecture for Commerce and Enterprise Service Layer (ESL) solutions.
• Design integrations between Adobe Commerce (Magento) and enterprise platforms including ERP, CRM, OMS, PIM, CMS, payment gateways, inventory systems, and fulfillment platforms.
• Establish API, microservices, messaging, and event-driven integration architectures.
• Define architecture standards for API security, authentication, authorization, logging, monitoring, observability, and performance management.
• Drive architecture governance and ensure compliance with enterprise architecture standards.
• Provide technical leadership to commerce, integration, backend, frontend, and platform engineering teams.
• Ensure solutions meet scalability, availability, resilience, security, and performance requirements.
• Review technical designs and recommend architectural improvements and best practices.
• Identify technical risks, dependencies, constraints, and mitigation strategies.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders and technology teams to translate business requirements into scalable architecture solutions.
• Create and maintain architecture diagrams, integration specifications, API standards, and technical documentation.
• Support platform modernization initiatives including headless commerce, composable architecture, and cloud-native solutions.

  Must-Have Skills

• Strong experience as a Solution Architect, Technical Architect, or Data Architect delivering Digital Commerce and Enterprise Integration solutions.
• Proven architecture experience with Adobe Commerce (Magento) including platform design, governance, integrations, and scalability planning.
• Strong expertise in Digital Commerce and eCommerce architecture.
• Strong knowledge of Enterprise Service Layer (ESL) architecture and enterprise integration frameworks.
• Hands-on experience designing REST APIs, Microservices, and API-driven architectures.
• Strong understanding of synchronous, asynchronous, messaging, and event-driven integration patterns.
• Experience integrating Commerce platforms with ERP, CRM, OMS, PIM, CMS, payment, inventory, and fulfillment systems.
• Strong knowledge of API Security including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), JWT, authentication, and authorization frameworks.
• Strong understanding of scalability, resiliency, caching, high availability, disaster recovery, and performance optimization principles.
• Experience defining architecture standards, API standards, and integration governance frameworks.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication, technical leadership, and solution design capabilities.

  Good-to-Have Skills

• Experience with SAP Commerce Cloud, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, commercetools, or other enterprise commerce platforms.
• Experience with Apigee, Azure API Management, Kong, MuleSoft, or similar API management and integration platforms.
• Experience with Kafka or other event-streaming and messaging technologies.
• Development background using Java/Spring Boot, .NET, or Node.js.
• Experience working with Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud platforms.
• Knowledge of Headless Commerce, Composable Commerce, and MACH Architecture.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and containerized application platforms.
• Understanding of CI/CD, DevOps, and DevSecOps practices.
• Experience with observability, application monitoring, and APM platforms such as Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Grafana, Elastic, New Relic, or Azure Monitor.
• Experience leading commerce transformation, platform modernization, or large-scale enterprise integration initiatives.

  Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience working within enterprise-scale retail, eCommerce, digital commerce, or customer-facing online platforms.
• Strong understanding of modern integration, API-first, and cloud-native architecture principles.
• Relevant architecture, cloud, integration, or commerce platform certifications are advantageous.
