Role Summary
The Business System Analyst (BSA) serves as the key liaison between business stakeholders and IT delivery teams, ensuring that business needs are accurately captured, analyzed, documented, and translated into scalable, high-quality solutions. Operating within an enterprise Agile environment, the BSA uses Jira and Confluence as systems of record for requirements, traceability, documentation, and delivery governance. The role supports all phases of the System Life Cycle (SLC) to ensure compliance, audit readiness, and successful end-to-end delivery.

Well-maintained, prioritized backlog with items consistently meeting Definition of Ready (DoR).
Requirements that are testable, traceable, and aligned with SLC stage gates.
End-to-end traceability from business objectives through release.
Reduced defects and rework through clear acceptance criteria and alignment.
Audit-ready documentation in Confluence linked to Jira items.
Actionable Jira dashboards supporting visibility, planning, and decision-making.
Main Responsibilities
1. Enterprise Requirements Management (Agile)
Lead requirements gathering through interviews, workshops, backlog grooming, and process analysis.
Translate business needs into Initiatives, Epics, Features (where applicable), and User Stories with clear acceptance criteria.
Ensure backlog items meet Definition of Ready (DoR) and support Definition of Done (DoD).
Manage scope changes through structured impact analysis and updates in Jira/Confluence.
Collaborate with Product Owners to prioritize based on value, dependencies, and team capacity.
2. Jira – Backlog & Delivery Management
Use Jira as the authoritative system for requirements, tracking, and delivery.
Create and maintain Initiatives, Epics, Stories, Tasks, and Bugs with proper hierarchy and linking.
Support workflows, custom fields, issue types, automation rules, and Advanced Roadmaps.
Develop and interpret dashboards and reports for visibility into delivery flow, risks, and dependencies.
3. Confluence – Documentation & Knowledge Management
Create and maintain high-quality documentation: requirements, functional specs, process flows, decision logs, and runbooks.
Use enterprise templates to ensure structure, consistency, and audit compliance.
Maintain document version control, approvals, and traceability to Jira artifacts.
4. System Life Cycle (SLC) Support & Governance
Support all SLC phases from initiation through post-implementation.
Contribute to SLC deliverables including BRD/FRS, RTM, impact assessments, test scenarios, UAT readiness, release documentation, and post-release validation.
Ensure stage-gate compliance and maintain auditable evidence in Jira and Confluence.
Participate in solution design and architecture reviews to validate functional and non-functional requirements.
5. Collaboration, Quality & Continuous Improvement
Work closely with Product Owners, Architects, Developers, QA, Operations, and Delivery Managers.
Participate in Agile ceremonies including standups, sprint planning, grooming, reviews, and retrospectives.
Support defect triage, test case alignment, and UAT preparation.
Track and maintain KPIs/metrics to improve analysis practices, documentation, and tooling.
Qualifications
Education & Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, IT, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Preferred: CSM/PSPO, SAFe, IIBA certifications, ITIL, Jira/Confluence certifications.
Experience & Skills
3–7+ years of experience as a Business Analyst or System Analyst in enterprise environments.
Strong hands-on experience with Jira and Confluence.
Exposure to Agile delivery methodologies (Scrum/Kanban; SAFe preferred).
Strong analytical thinking, facilitation, communication, and documentation skills.
Ability to translate complex business needs into structured, testable requirements.
